Sihuan Pharmaceutical Holdings Group Ltd. is pleased to announce that the approval of drug registration has been obtained from the National Medical Products Administration of the People’s Republic of China in June 2021 in relation to the Caspofungin Acetate for Injection (50mg) developed by the Group, approving the manufacture of the drug.
Caspofungin Acetate for Injection, a type of Category B drug under the National Reimbursement Drug List, is the first new generation echinocandin antifungal drug with broad-spectrum antifungal effects. Caspofungin Acetate for Injection is suitable for empirical therapy to adult and pediatric patients (3 months old or above) for presumed fungal infections in febrile, neutropenic patients, the treatment of Candida infections and the treatment of invasive aspergillosis in relation to which other therapies are ineffective or cause intolerance.
Echinocandins antifungal drugs are first-line drugs for systemic fungal infection, and have the characteristics of wide antifungal spectrum, long half-life, high binding rate with human albumin, fewer adverse reactions, good patient tolerance and others, all of which make it an anti-invasive-fungal infection drug with urgent clinical demand. Currently three kinds of echinocandins drugs are launched globally, namely caspofungin, micafungin and anidulafungin. With wider antifungal spectrum and broader population of drug users, caspofungin is one of the leading types among echinocandins antifungal drugs.
In accordance with the database of IQVIA, the global market sales of Caspofungin Acetate for Injection amounted to approximately US$0.504 billion in 2019, and the market sales in China amounted to approximately US$0.146 billion. As one of the leading types among echinocandins antifungal drugs, it is expected that there is substantial growth potential in the market sales of Caspofungin.
